Overview
From sustainable energy distribution to a long-term housing renewal program, the construction projects you see across campus represent exciting investments in Dartmouth's future. Here's a summary of three major project categories that are getting significant attention:
-
Decarbonization: Dartmouth is committed to reaching carbon zero operations by 2050. To reach that goal, we must reshape how we heat, cool, and power our campus. This includes enhancements to energy efficiency, the ongoing transition from steam to hot water heating, and the installation of geo-exchange borefields and high-capacity heat pumps.
-
Housing Renewal: Dartmouth is making a generational investment in housing renewal with a plan to renovate the majority of undergraduate residence halls over the next 15 years and increase undergraduate housing on or within walking distance of campus. The commitment calls for 1,000 new beds in the next decade across Dartmouth to house students, faculty, and staff.
-
Capital Renewal & Accessibility: Renewal of critical building infrastructure and improving accessibility for students, faculty, and staff have been key objectives of many construction projects around Dartmouth. Examples include the renovation of the Collis Center for Student Involvement, where updates to improve accessibility will enable the porch and building to be available for events. In addition, the East Wheelock housing renovations include measures to improve accessibility.
