In her inaugural address, President Sian Leah Beilock pledged to add a total of 1,000 new beds for students, faculty, and staff over the next decade. As part of this pledge, Dartmouth plans to construct two new residence halls between 37 and 43 West Wheelock Street that will create apartment-style housing for Dartmouth juniors and seniors. These residence halls will add approximately 400 new beds and are designed to be fully accessible and will include such amenity spaces as a mini-café, community rooms, a treehouse reading room, and several outdoor gathering spaces.

Construction team began the installation of the necessary support systems for safely excavating the building foundations. This work will continue through July 2026. More specific activities and impacts include:
Installation of these systems uses large machinery and will generate noise and vibrations in the areas around the construction site that will be felt in surrounding buildings.
Use of a Diesel Impact Hammer which will generate loud noises to facilitate install of the sheet piles.
Mass excavation of soils within the property
Normal working hours will be between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and there is potential for work on select Saturdays. Please note, the use of loud machinery for sheet pile installation will be restricted to Monday through Thursday with the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The loud machinery work described above will halt during reading and finals period (June 4 - 9), as it did for the end of winter term.
