Anonymous Hall Dedication

President Hanlon speaks at the dedication of Anonymous Hall.

Good afternoon! It's a pleasure to be here to participate in the dedication of this incredible new building and to pay tribute to the countless donors who have generously and quietly supported the college since our founding.

These donors and volunteers give of their time, talent and treasure without want or need of public recognition.  They represent a defining characteristic of our Dartmouth community … humility. I'm extraordinarily proud that this type of generosity has become a hallmark of our institution. And I am delighted to embrace the donor's request to rededicate the building as Anonymous Hall, honoring alumni and friends whose loyalty and selfless service have made Dartmouth one of the world's premier institutions of higher education, with outsized global impact.

This newly renovated space stands as a welcoming, modern facility that is worthy of the outstanding students, faculty and staff who will grace its halls.

Anonymous Hall will be the permanent home of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced studies which oversees many of our graduate and post-doctoral programs.  As some of you may know, this week marks National Post-doc Appreciation Week.  I can't think of a more fitting way to show our appreciation than through the dedication of this incredible new space. And joining the Guarini School in Anonymous Hall will be outstanding teacher-scholars from a number of Arts and Sciences Departments.

Outfitted with modern teaching technologies, the building's classrooms, workspaces and offices are, indeed, a welcome addition to our exceptional research and learning environment.  All told, this configuration will help to realize the vision of Anonymous Hall as a vibrant hub of collaboration and learning for undergraduates and graduate students alike.

On behalf of everyone at Dartmouth, I want to thank Leers Weinzapfel Architects and Windover Construction for making this project a reality, and to all of the campus constituents who played an instrumental role in ensuring that this $28 million project was completed on time and on budget.

Anonymous Hall will forever stand as a testament to the generous and selfless spirit that fuels our learning and affirms our legacy.

And now, it is my pleasure to turn it over to someone who championed this project from its earliest days: the Board Chair when this vision for Anonymous Hall was born. A dear friend, a most loyal alum, and unwavering champion of academic excellence, Bill Helman.
