Indoor Practice Facility

Update for the two weeks beginning Feb. 11 and 18, 2019

Construction of the Indoor Practice Facility

Construction of the new Indoor Practice Facility began in mid-January, 2019 and will continue through the winter of 2020. This facility will provide much-needed indoor training space for Dartmouth’s varsity student-athletes during cold and inclement weather. It will be located directly east of the Boss Tennis Center and north of Scully-Fahey Field in Dartmouth’s east athletic campus. The primary feature will be a 56,000 square foot FieldTurf® surface which is nearly three times the size of the temporary turf used inside Leverone Field House’s track.

What's Happening

  • Installation of steel sheeting is underway along the north edge of Scully-Fahey Field and will continue through end of February.
  • Installation of utility work is proceeding, including drain lines and new manholes in the area at the north end of the site adjacent to Tyler Road, but within the project fence line.

What to Expect

  • Perimeter fencing will be in place.
  • Regular work hours will be Monday – Friday, between 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., in accordance with town regulations. Any future weekend work will be communicated on this site.
  • Construction vehicles will travel to and from the site through Thompson lot and Route 120.
  • No deliveries will be made via Tyler Road, except for the entry/exit of a crane.
  • Typical large equipment noise and moderate vibrations will occur during installation of steel sheeting.
  • To minimize vibrations, our contractor is using ground thaw technology to make excavation through the top frozen layer less impactive. Vibrations will be monitored to assure they do not exceed what is acceptable per common construction practices.
