Extending Utilities to the West End

Update for the two weeks beginning Nov. 18 and 25, 2019

Extending Utilities to the West end

Phase 2 of the project to extend utilities from north to the west end of campus is scheduled to occur from April – early winter, 2019. This phase completes the ability to send hot/chilled water from north campus (Sudikoff/McLaughlin) to the end of Tuck Mall, where it will be distributed to west end buildings starting in March 2020. Specifically, this project phase will:

  • construct a new energy transfer station in the basement of Sudikoff that will convert existing steam heat to hot water.
  • install hot/chilled water lines in parallel from the west end of Tuck Mall to the new energy transfer station in Sudikoff (for hot water) and to the existing underground north campus chilled water plant under the McLaughlin Cluster (for chilled water)
  • provide new high voltage electrical distribution to the Choates, with hot and chilled water piping stubs installed for future connections.

What's Happening

  • Piping work and excavation in the McLaughlin Cluster is ongoing.
  • Excavation work is underway at Tuck Mall in front of Lord, Streeter, Gile, and Hitchcock.
  • Excavation and piping work continues between Parker House and Winifred-Raven.
  • Excavation is also underway behind the Blunt Alumni Center.
