Andres Hall is closed through Aug. 2023 as the first of a two-phase project to renovate East Wheelock House. Phase two renovations, scheduled from July 2023 – Aug. 2024, will provide renovations to Zimmerman Hall and Brace Commons.
Dartmouth's goals for the renovations are to improve accessibility and energy performance, upgrade the life safety and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems, add study spaces, and increase the overall bed count by 24, from 168 to 192 beds. While the footprint of Andres and Zimmerman residence halls will not be changed, renovations will make more efficient use of existing space and in-fill atrium areas to add beds. These additional beds will be used as swing space in the future as other residence halls are taken off-line for renovation.
During the project, upgrades will be made to the plaza and site landscaping to remove barriers to accessible entry and to provide a more engaging exterior student environment. Solar hot-water panels will be constructed on the roofs of Andres and Zimmerman.
