Reed Hall Capital Renewal

About the Project

Reed Hall, home to several humanities and interdisciplinary departments, is scheduled for major infrastructure upgrades from December 2019 – July 2020.  This 179-year-old building will be off-line during this time, with faculty and staff temporarily relocated to the newly renovated Dana academic building and Dewey Field Road. In addition to the specific renewal-related activities listed below, the renovations permit the addition of more classroom space.

  • Install full sprinkler coverage
  • Address accessibility with an interior elevator, accessible entrance and accessible restrooms
  • Improve mechanical systems; convert heating system from steam to hot water, improve ventilation, and add air conditioning
  • Refurbish the existing window systems
  • Improve lighting and upgrade electrical infrastructure
  • Improve paint, flooring and other finishes in commons areas, classrooms, and faculty offices.

Reed Hall is located on the corner of West Wheelock and College Streets and is the farthest south of the four white buildings known as Dartmouth Row: Wentworth Hall, Dartmouth Hall, Thornton Hall, Reed Hall. Similar renovations are planned for Thornton Hall during the same timeframe in 2020/2021.
