About the Project
Dartmouth College is constructing an Indoor Practice Facility to significantly improve training conditions for varsity student-athletes during cold and inclement weather. As the northernmost Ivy League school, Dartmouth faces unique challenges regarding the need for indoor practice space, especially during the winter, early spring, and late fall. While Leverone Field House is a wonderful facility, it serves as the primary venue for indoor track and field, so the hours available for field teams fall far short of the demand. The new Indoor Practice Facility will address that shortage by providing Big Green football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball, softball, and other sports with a dedicated practice space that is available regardless of weather conditions.
The facility will be located directly east of the Boss Tennis Center and north of Scully-Fahey Field in Dartmouth’s east athletic campus. The primary feature will be a 56,000 square foot FieldTurf® surface which is nearly three times the size of the temporary turf used inside Leverone Field House’s track. The building will also include a lobby, meeting room, rest rooms, storage areas, a satellite sports medicine space, two video filming platforms, two baseball/softball batting tunnels, and netting to protect the facility and to divide the space when desired.
