In 2024, Dartmouth made a commitment of more than $500 million in the next five years to accelerate infrastructure renewal and deferred maintenance that will keep Dartmouth's campus functioning efficiently year-round. Part of this commitment includes making upgrades to improve energy efficiency – continuing the transition from steam- to hot-water heating.
This transition requires Dartmouth to install distribution piping — pipes carrying water — across large areas of campus to heat and cool its buildings. This work is already underway with piping having been installed during the North to West Utilities project (distribution piping from Sudikoff Hall to west campus), and now it's time to begin the next phase by starting to connect the pipes.
Create and build a major pipe connection point under Crosby Street so that all of the distribution pipes can be linked as part of the overall system.
Design and conduct this work in such a way that minimizes the traffic and pedestrian impact as much as possible. While there will be an impact to the community, the project is critical to the success of our energy transition program and the future health of our community.
Work is estimated to begin on Wednesday, June 18.
It's estimated that Crosby Street will be closed starting June 18th for an estimated duration of 18 months.
Excavation and piping work continues within the fencing.
Electric Gates (3) locations:
Vox gate will now be open regularly with occasional closings for special construction activities.
McKenzie gate will now be open regularly with occasional closings for special construction activities.
Crosby gate will remain closed - green pass holders will be able to utilize this gate to access the onion and gym lots.
Parking office will distribute gate code to green pass holders.
Crosby St. remains closed.
