Construction of the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society was completed in March 2022. The mission of the Institute is "to advance an affordable, sustainable, and reliable energy future for the benefit of society." Programs within the building are multidisciplinary—drawing upon faculty and students from across Dartmouth's undergraduate and graduate schools.

The 55,000 gross-square-foot building is located between the Tuck School of Business and Thayer School of Engineering. An atrium forms a connection to Murdough Hall, providing a natural point of convergence for faculty and students from around campus. The building also contains teaching and learning spaces, faculty and research office and workplace environments, research and demonstration labs and maker spaces, the Fern Café, and a series of spaces designed to foster informal interaction.

The Irving Institute continues to improve upon the Dartmout tradition of high-performance buildings and landscapes. It was awarded LEED Platinum certification in August 2024.
